Choice of Two Performance Transmissions

The 2022 WRX comes with the choice of two different transmissions, both of them reworked for the new model year. The first is a quick-shifting 6-speed manual with a short-throw shifter for superior feel and control. The other option is the newly available Subaru Performance TransmissionTM (SPT) with an 8-speed manual mode, paddle shifters and automatic downshift blipping control. Armed with smarter, more aggressive shift logic, the SPT delivers 30% faster upshifts, 50% faster downshifts and quick response to driver inputs than the previous automatic. Both transmissions create a more satisfying experience behind the wheel in all sorts of scenarios.

Built on the Subaru Global Platform

For the first time ever, the new WRX is built on the Subaru Global Platform, which uses extensive high-strength steel for more rigidity, long-lasting quality and close to 30% higher torsional stiffness. These qualities create sharper handling, improved ride comfort and a quieter cabin.

This advanced system, monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, warns you when you’re veering outside your lane and even automatically applies full braking force and brings you to a complete stop in emergency situations. An all-new feature of the system, Automatic Emergency Steering, can assist in certain emergency scenarios by steering the vehicle away from an oncoming obstacle when there is a clear path and braking alone may not be enough to avoid an accident.
